Crisis at Valley City State University

Crisis on the Campus of Valley City State University
www.vcsu.edu

The campus of Valley City State University definitely has a very different feel to it this spring. Classes were cancelled on April 15th for the remainder of the spring semester. Students will continue to finish classes online for the spring of 09. Dr. Steven Shirley all with the help of others made the announcement to student faculty and staff early Wednesday April 15th. The offices of VCSU will remain open but classes will not be held. There will also be a few more changes on campus this spring. Graduation will be held in W.E. Osmon fieldhouse (bubble) instead of Vangstad Auditorium as usual. This doesn’t seem like a very major change but I think there are many students who are upset and would have loved to graduate in Vangstad. There is nothing student, staff, or faculty can do about any of this Mother Nature is in full control right now.

Dr. Shirley has done a great job keep the VCSU community updated. He sends up weekly e-mails with new updates and also speaks on the local radio station with new updates. Not only does he want to make sure the VCSU community is updated but he also wants to make sure the Valley City community is aware of what is happening.

Keep up the hard work VCSU and we will get through this fight together.

  1. I would have to agree with that Dr. Shirley has done and continues to do great work at keeping every one informed of the situations. I wont be graduating until December so the location change does not effect me but I do know many people that are graduating and who are a bit irritated. Not so much that they are changing the location but more so because they have to finish the school year away from the school where they have all made many friends and that they dont get to spend their last weeks with them.

  2. Its true VCSU has done a great job keeping us updated on all the changes we have to go through. What a year for Dr. Shirley to take over as our new president. He has done a great job though, his leadership has made this crisis run very smoothly.

I also feel for this years seniors. I am a junior and there are many seniors that are my friends and it is sad to think I may not see some of them agian. Mother Nature sure through us on a wild roller coaster this year, but we have come out safe and dry for the most part.

  3. I think that he has done a great job handling this situation this year, being his first and a difficult one. I was am still am a little sceptical of this online class stuff, it is ok for this class because it is set up as an online class. Some of the other classes i dont think are working out so well to be an online class. Dr. Shirley is doing everything he can and i understand that.

  4. And for Dr. Shirley's first year, I think he handled it very well. To make a lot of decisions like he did, such as letting school out to help with sandbagging, cancelling for that week and then having it online for the rest of the semester. Lots of big choices there, and the campus and Dr. Shirley did an amazing job of keeping everything as organized as possible. I applaud this town I reside in. =)
